Village Backwater Cruise in Kerala
Seven hours Backwater cruise on a House Boat & Country Boat with traditional Kerala lunch
Daily Tour : Starts from Main Boat Jetty, Ernakulam at 8.30 am and comes back at 5 pm.
Program : 30 minutes journey by coach/car to a nearby village. 4 hours cruise on a houseboat through wide canals and lagoons and 3 hours cruise on a country boat through narrow canals of different villages.
Itinerary : See traditional coir making. A rare chance to see different spice plants like pepper, coffee, cloves, nutmeg etc. 15 minutes walk around the villages under coconut palm trees. Watch birds like kingfisher, bee eaters, cormorants etc.
Food : Kerala Thali meals with seafood specialities to your choice.
About the village : The village lies 20 kms. South east of Cochin. Since there are no industries in the area, the village is free of noise, pollution etc. The main occupation of the villagers is making rope from coconut fibre, straw mat weaving using wild pineapple leaves, collecting sand from the river bed, fishing and farming.
About the boats : The house boat, a converted ‘Kettuvallom’ (traditional Rice Barge), is made the hardwood ‘Anjili’ and is about 70 feet long and 13 feet wide. It has a spacious double room with modern toilet. Also, a pavillion of 15 persons seating capacity is provided. The country boat is a nonmechanised traditional open canoe rowed by two villagers. It is made from the hardwood ‘Anjili’ and is about 25 feet long and 8 feet in width.
Price : Rs.650/- per person includes seven hours backwater cruise, lunch and transportation. Free hotel pick up within Kochi city limits is also provided.
